Every year Pineridge Grouse Camp offers a woodcock banding clinic for those interested in seeing how to band woodcock and potentially being able to get a permit from his or her state to band woodcock themselves the following spring. The dates for 2021 are currently set for May 14-15-16-17. These dates may change and it will be updated here and on www.pineridgegrousecamp.com
YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!
You will be guided through a very informative power point program discussing the following:
We will also have a presentation on how to create woodcock habitat, getting your dog staunch to flush so you can band, and hopefully if the males cooperate, witness first hand a skydance. Your pointing dog is welcome to attend as well. If you would like to pursue a permit to band you’re pointing dog MUST GET CERTIFIED TO BAND WOODCOCK. This can be done at this clinic under the guidance of Jerry Havel of Pineridge Grouse Camp.
Representatives from the American Bird Conservancy, Ruffed Grouse Society, American Woodcock Society and the US Fish & Wildlife will be in attendance to assist the program and answer any questions you may have about the national wingbee and other study projects like using GPS transmitters to track migration which has just started in Minnesota.
If you are passionate about upland birds and dogs, you'll be among friends here. Even if you do not end up banding woodcock on your own, you will likely have the opportunity to see some chicks banded. Pine Ridge is a top-notch place!
